I chose to study History Dictators & Democracy at College because it has been a subject that I’ve always had a passion for. The main appeal of the History D&D course is the diversity of the aspects of the courses, the majority of which I had never studied or looked at before, including the Cold War and the Wars of the Roses – which turned out to be my favourite parts of the course! Even German history, which I had looked at in part during my GCSEs, was taken further than before, and learning about the division of the country (and then reunification) has been really interesting, and looking at the wider context has helped me to understand more about the world than I did before.
Taking the History D&D course here has helped in my other learning; in Psychology in particular, the transferrable skills from History have been a great aid (analysing, evaluating, etc). The coursework aspect offered by the History D&D A Level has helped me develop my abilities around investigating primary and secondary sources, as well as helping to develop my ability to structure and put together an argument to support points.
91¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ itself is great: it has a lovely campus, friendly students and very helpful staff, who have been on-hand to support me both academically and at other points in my College experience, such as with my application to university.
I am planning on going onto University to study History and I don’t think that this would be the case if not for the great course I studied at here at Godalming, with a group of fantastic teachers walking me through it over my two years here.
